My Crete holiday for 2 weeks by Netty

My girl friend and me have booked all inclusive holiday with a hotel, which was near Heraklion, near the airport. The “occasional aircraft noise” from the prospectus has proved to be understate. All 15 minutes, we were able to hear landing planes (or starting) with new arrived guests. Meanwhile, conversations were not possible outdoors. A smal benefit was that food and drinks were free (including alcoholic!) I have to confess that food was very good. We have undertaken excursions with a rented minibus to various tourist centers. Since we are often proceed, we could have also considerably more pleasant, because tourists rarely visited areas admire. More than once a sheep or goat herd has our ride stopped. In any even the smallest village you can find at least one church. They all seem to come from ELK On this tours through the island we could see that many tourist made the same and enjoyed the “mainland” of Crete and not the beach with the sea. Maybe this is because the water at the beach is not very warm. Recommendable are detailed guide or guide lines because without them it will be hard to find the tourist attractions like the only palm beach in east of the island. It looks like a palm beach somewhere in asia. Sometimes we have seen the new buildings with historic structures. Also much dilapidated or unfinished works. The beaches on the south coast are rare but beautiful. On the north side, the wind blow very much. Tourists were according to the natives in the post season already significantly less.

A special event was the Sanmaria George. At an altitude of circa 1200 meter at a distance of 13 kilometers to overcome rough terrain. You can admire in this national park among other things, two scorpion species, three poisonous snake species (if you have “luck”), various water bodies and many trees and stones. The Cretans (or all Greeks?) have a strange relationship to money - they take it unwillingly, but they are also angry if it is too little. It will be haggled like people do on a bazar and then if the price was to deep they will complain about it. One thing was very nice, they are very hospitable and Ouzo (greek hard liqur) will be overed on any occasion unless you are not in a tourist trap device. Also you have to take care that you don´t pay too much for some tourist goods. Nevertheless, many shops offer you to spent your money for eg. especially clothes. As we returned, we had bad luck and luck. Since two flights were merged, we had four hours to wait at the airport. But then we could fly with a Boeing 777 from Lauda Air home.
